Australian eCommerce briefing for Henan Provincial Administration (China)

Australian ecommerce was the subject of a briefing given to a delegation of senior officials from the Henan Provincial Administration (China) in Melbourne today, Wed 2nd Sept 2009.
Stewart Carter, eCommerce Report editor and chairman of the Australian eCommerce Network, was the lead presenter for the bi-lingual briefing, and was ably assisted by Mandarin translator, Helina Guo, from Summit language
.
Victoria University’s Melbourne city campus was the venue for the computer and Internet based briefing, which provided an overview and summary details of the regulation, management and development of ecommerce in Australia.
Kieran Magee, Group manager for domains and online marketing at Melbourne IT, also participated in the briefing.
Melbourne IT is one of a number of Australian corporations involved in successful joint-ventures with Chinese businesses.
Its joint-venture with www.Alibaba.com promotes participation in the giant global trade promotion service to Australian businesses.
Other examples of Australian and Chinese business co-operation include Zhaopin.com, an online jobs and employment service majority owned by Seek.com, and Soufun.com, owend by Sensis.
The delegates from Henan said they were familiar with www.Zhaopin.com, and also with www.Haobao.com, an online shop promoting Australian products developed by local company Paymate, in conjunction with leading Chinese online payments gateway – AliPay.
However the delegates were less familiar with www.Soufun.com, an online real estate service owned by Sensis. They said that, at least in Henan Province, Soufun is not known as a major player.
Henan Province is widely regarded as the cradle of Chinese civilization, and has a population of just under 100 million people. Capital city is ZhengZhou and geographically it is located west of Shanghai, on the southern bank of the Yellow river.
