Air New Zealand adds POLI to online payment options

Locally developed online payment system, POLi, is gaining traction in the New Zealand marketplace.
It has now added Air New Zealand to its Kiwi customer base, which already includes NZ government agency - Land Transport NZ.

Bruce Parton, Air New Zealand’s group general manager for ‘short-haul’ airline travel said that the new payment option is great for people who either don’t have a credit-card or prefer not to use it online.

“In the current economic climate Internet banking is a great payment option if you do not have a credit card, or would prefer not to add to your credit card balance.”

POLi provides Air NZ customers with the option to use the pay anyone feature in their Internet banking service to buy tickets online.

All of the major NZ banks have such a feature in their Internet banking service, including the ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Kiwibank and TSB.

So too do all the major Australian banks including the ANZ, Bank of Queensland, Bank West, CBA, NAB, St George, Suncorp and Westpac.

Air New Zealand’s POLi implementation means that both Australian and New Zealand customers can pay with POLi, even for same day flights.

Parton said that the process is quick and simple and that once the payment is complete an e-ticket is issued instantly.

He added that POLi’s advantages for consumers include the confidence offered by paying from within Internet banking and the security of no personal banking details being disclosed to Air New Zealand.

However the service also has some limitations. Developed for use with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer v6, POLi also runs on Firefox version 2 (so long as Javascript is enabled). It may not run on Opera, Google’s Chrome, Apple’s Safari or other browsers.

Even so, POLi’s developers at Melbourne based private company, Centricom, will no doubt see the new signing as evidence of further market momentum for POLi.

POLi has been available in the Australian market for some years now, and has thus far found its greatest popularity amongst online wagering services.

Last year both the TABCorp owned Luxbet.com.au and its rival, Betfair.com.au, added a POLi payment option to their online betting services.

The service was already available at Australia’s other leading online bookies including Sportsbet.com.au and Sportingbet.com.au.

POLi has also benefited from an equity investment by publicly-listed UK payments company, NeTeller.

NeTeller (now known as Neovia) have a strong presence in online gaming and are backing Centricom’s efforts to push POLI into the UK and European markets.
