Group buying, daily deals market hits $AUD158million in September quarter

A new research report has estimated the Australian daily deals/group-buying/coupon sites market to have grown 28% in the last three months with deals sold worth more than $158million. Four Groupon rivals and competitors have partnered with eBay Australia in yesterday’s launch of a daily deals service at http://groupdeals.ebay.com.au They are LivingSocial Australia, Spreets, Jumponit and OurDeal. Visitors to the home page of www.ebay.com.au are presented with a daily deals offer from each of the four, smack bang in the centre of the page.

Lies, damned lies and market research on group-buying sites, Cudo, Spreets, Groupon etc

Market researchers – Hitwise/Experian – are widely reported in today’s press as the source of ‘data’ showing that cudo.com.au had a 54.8% share of visits to Australian daily deals websites in September last year. It is a totally ridiculous claim. As we reported last year, cudo was launched by ninemsn on the 3rd of September.
